Bring us all of your Dreams

A little over two months away is our next winter concert, Wildest Dreams. As we reflect on our 35 year herstory, we are proud of what Artemis Singers has accomplished and how many lives we have touched. In this next concert we’ll envision where we want to go next — as individuals, as a chorus, and as global citizens.

We’ll perform on Saturday and Sunday, January 23 and 24 at the Ethical Humanist Society in Skokie. Follow this link for more details.

You will be treated to wonderful melodies by Kristina Boerger, Andrea Ramsey, Holly Near, Kay Gardner, Joan Szymko, and more, coupled with inspiring texts from visionaries like Audre Lorde, Emily Dickinson, Ella Baker, Langston Hughes, and Jane Addams.

If you would like to honor a person or organization that inspires you, consider placing an ad in our concert program book. Learn more or reserve your ad here.

We’ve started working on our Winter Concert

More details will be shared here and on Facebook as they develop, but we are already deep into rehearsals for our January 2016 concert, Wildest Dreams.

We are exploring our wildest dreams about the environment, social justice, feminism, empowerment, love and passion, and our own personal dreams.

December 2015 marks 35 years since Artemis Singers’ first concert appearance, so we’re also pretty psyched to be celebrating that as well. Did our founding mothers in 1980 dream that their choral lovechild would last this long? We’re still going strong and still committed to singing music written or arranged by women.

In memory of Joel Carothers

We are sad to learn of the passing this month of Joel Carothers, resident of New Mexico and formerly a Chicagoan. Our received knowledge is that Joel was one of the founding mothers of Artemis Singers back in 1980. If anyone knows more about Joel’s history with Artemis, we would welcome the information.*

Windy City Times has published a lovely remembrance of this lively and creative woman: http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/lgbt/PASSAGES-Joel-B-Carothers-dies/52485.html.

Our hearts go out to her partner Kate Winner and all of Joel’s family and friends.

*Update: we have gotten confirmation from one of our community Elders that indeed Joel was a founder of Artemis.
