The next Artemis Singers New Member night will be September 27, 2018 (note change from original date). We would love to have you come and sing with us! We rehearse on Thursday nights on the northwest side of Chicago, in a new location accessible by car (ample free parking), CTA L, or bus.
We seek women singers who can carry a tune and are excited about singing in a lesbian feminist chorus that performs music written or arranged by women. That’s what we’ve been up to for the last 38 years!
Our next concert will be “Sheroes” in March 2019. In honor of Women’s History Month, the Sheroes concert will present songs and stories of strong women we admire — women who made a difference, who stood up to power, who moved the people and worlds around them. We are envisioning an intimate evening of songs and spoken pieces from members of Artemis and the lesbian community.

Make a plan to join Artemis Singers for our pride concert and dance June 9, 2018 at 7:00 pm. We return to Hyde Park and the soaring gothic acoustically beautiful space in First Unitarian Church of Chicago, 5650 S. Woodlawn Ave. Plenty of street parking.
We’re world-premiering a new piece by effervescent chorus member Allison Downing called “I Chose the L,” asserting a clear preference. You’ll also hear our chorus’s first-ever performance of “Signs” by Ruth Huber, which artfully strings together protest signs seen at the Women’s March. And as if that wasn’t enough, we’re also world-premiering a new arrangement by our multi-talented Laurie Lee Moses called “Songs of Strong Sisters.” It’s every Sister-song we’ve ever sung distilled into one piece!
The concert theme is More than Music, reflecting the fact that as a community organization, Artemis provides a place where women come together to learn about each other, to harmonize, to socialize, to self-govern, to develop new skills, and to craft a performance. But at our foundation, we always come back to the music and to one another.
And since we’re talking about more than music…Artemis is delighted to welcome the stunning poet e nina jay as a guest artist. After the concert, you’ll definitely want to stay for the dance, with tunes spun by DJ OCD!
You can read the press release for quotes from our artistic/production team, or see them live in an interview with WCPT 820 radio show Out Chicago.
Discounted tickets for students, seniors and children. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 7:00 pm.

Artemis Singers is about more than music.
We sing music written or arranged by women. That is what we do. We work to effect positive change in cultural attitudes toward women and women artists, as well as to increase the visibility of lesbian feminists. In doing that, we explore the roots of who we are as women, as lesbians, as feminists. That in turn often leads us to themes of peace, community building, and social justice. We don’t always get along. Our meetings and rehearsals are sometimes less than harmonious. But whatever else happens, we always come back to the music and to one another.
Want to sing with us? Join us for new member night on Thursday, Jan 25!
