Same-Sex Marriage in 50 States

On this historic day of #SCOTUSMarriage and #LoveIsLove, here are some wonderful lyrics from “Something Inside So Strong” by Labi Siffre:

The higher you build your barriers
The taller I become
The farther you take my rights away
The faster I will run
You can deny me
You can decide to turn your face away
No matter, cos there’s

Something inside so strong
I know that I can make it
Though you’re doing me wrong, so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh no, there’s something inside so strong
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Something inside so strong

Happy Pride!

Artemis ProudWe just closed our 2014-2015 Season with a big dose of Pride. We performed “Proud to Be…Me!” on June 6 on the North side at Broadway United Methodist and June 13 on the South side at Beverly Unitarian. We are donating a portion of the proceeds of the June 13 concert to Affinity, whose mission statement is:

Affinity Community Services is a social justice organization that works with and on behalf of Black LGBTQ communities, queer youth, and allies to identify emergent needs, create safe spaces, develop leaders, and bridge communities through collective analysis and action for social justice, freedom, and human rights.

Happy Pride Month to all, and enjoy Chicago’s Pride March on Sunday, June 28.

Next up, a well-deserved summer break, followed by New Member night on August 27.  Contact us here or phone 773-764-4465 to let us know if you are interesting in joining the chorus. We’re open to women singers with a lesbian feminist inclination who are free to rehearse on Thursday nights. There’s no audition, but it would be great if you can match pitch and have some sense of rhythm. No need to be able to sight-read music. We are also always looking for people to volunteer with us behind the scenes.

Here’s how we showed our true colors at Broadway UMC:
